Professional Basketball Club and University Sports Join Forces: ALBA BERLIN and Freie Universität Enter Basketball League Together

New Team Starts in Lowest League / Student Players Welcome!

№ 258/2015 from Sep 02, 2015

Beginning now, students in the basketball team at Freie Universität Berlin will be playing in the German basketball league system. The ALBA-FU Team is starting under the guidance of experienced ALBA coaches Daniel Endres and Danny Traupe in the lowest league. Students at Freie Universität who are interested in playing on the team can apply by sending an email to info@hochschulsport.fu-berlin.de and referring to "Uni-Team BaBa." Linking club sports and university sports in basketball is part of a long-term cooperation agreement signed by ALBA and Freie Universität in May 2015. Another special feature of the cooperation is a basketball tournament being held on October 18 for students from around the world.

By officially cooperating, the basketball club ALBA BERLIN and the university Freie Universität Berlin want to get university students more excited about basketball, which the partners see as a good way of promoting intercultural exchange. They also aim to establish structures that would facilitate the continued growth of university sports in Germany. The agreement is valid for three years.

ALBA coach Daniel Endres along with Danny Traupe train the university team of Freie Universität Berlin, which already participates in national and international championships and will now be competing in the Berlin league. The international basketball tournament organized by ALBA and Freie Universität will take place in the Max Schmeling Hall on October 18. It is the second time ALBA and the university organized this tournament, which is intended to unite students from around the world on the basketball court.
