Inhalte:
Subject of the seminar are the organization and structure of simple and complex DNA and RNA viruses, the function of various virus components, regulation of viral gene expression, mechanisms of viral genome replication, virus-host cell interaction, viral pathogenicity mechanisms and antiviral therapy. Based on original literature, similarities and overarching connections between individual virus families regarding viral genome replication, the regulation of gene expression, interference with cellular defense mechanisms and viral-induced oncogenesis are worked out and presented. A further important topic is the development and application of virus-based vectors for gene therapy applications.

Qualifikationsziele:
After attending the module, the students have a broad range of theoretical knowledge about the molecular replication strategies of viruses, the mechanisms of virus-host cell interactions, the pathogenicity mechanisms of selected virus groups and the application of viral vectors in modern medicine. They are able to study, present and critically discuss original research papers. Schließen
