This course focuses on the application of network analysis techniques to analyze online political networks. It offers an introduction to fundamental network concepts and measures. Students will gain hands-on experience in analyzing social media data to uncover key connections and patterns. They will learn to visualize and interpret network data using software tools like Gephi. The course aims to develop practical skills such as identifying influential actors and mapping communities in political communication research. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the necessary skills to conduct their own network analysis projects. Note: this seminar is designed to complement the course Networks in Online Political Communication: Theory and Concepts , and we highly recommend taking both together to achieve the intended learning objectives.
Mid-term evaluation: Practice network measure using mock datasets: Submitting a group paper draft.
Final: Group project that focuses on analyzing the tweets of German politicians. Students will tackle a research question and explore network measures such as centrality and clustering as well as parameters such as political party and gender within the context of network analysis. Submission of a full group paper. Schließen
