Qualitative interview is used in research when more personal interaction promises to obtain in depth information from the participants and thus to achieve richer data. Qualitative interviews usually involve follow-up questions and are conducted in a conversation format. Yet sometimes exploring topics that insolve sensitive issues or rely on tacit knowledge may be challanging. Elicitation techniques are visual, verbal, written or palpable stimuli used in interview to help participants talk. They also promise to reduce imbalances between researcher and research participants. In this seminar, we explore different elicitation formats and applications, discuss their usefulness and challenges related to their application, as well as examine the ethical aspects of elicitation techniques. Through readings, discussions and practical exercises, the seminar participants will learn how to plan and implement elicitation in qualitative studies. Schließen
