How does climate change affect the availability and quality of water? How can the new challenges in managing water resources be mastered together with stakeholders? The second Einstein Research Unit (ERU) of the Berlin University Alliance (BUA) will deal with these and other issues on the subject of “Climate and Water in Transition.” In an interview, Britta Tietjen (spokesperson) and Jörg Niewöhner (co-spokesperson) explain the interdisciplinary approach of the joint project.

The interdisciplinary research team of the alliance partners Freie Universität Berlin, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Technische Universität Berlin, and Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin has set itself the goal of researching the risks associated with water availability and quality caused by climate change and, together with stakeholders from society, administation, commerce, and politics, seeking solutions for a sustainable management of water resources. The Einstein Research Unit Climate and Water under Change (CliWaC) will be funded with six million euros for an initial period of three years.
