Libraries' Shift to Sustainability: Managing Ecological and Institutional Changes

Freie Universität Berlin declared a climate emergency in 2019 and subsequently set itself the goal of becoming CO2-neutral by 2025. Climate protection and sustainability have become big issues that we are dealing with as a university and university library. For the upcoming International Staff Training Week 2023, we as the Freie Universität Berlin's university library would like to take up this topic, the theme of sustainability. Looking at concrete fields of action in our work, we want to discuss with our guests how we as libraries and librarians can make a difference and imagine and shape a more sustainable present and future. In addition to the ecological perspective, we would also like to think sustainability further ahead. How can we, for example, offer more sustainable services to students, academics and other user groups? How do we manage digital transitions sustainably? And how do we deal in general with new requirements resulting from ever faster social, technological and environmental change?
