After a pandemic-induced several year long break in personal visits with Chinese partners, First Vice President Prof. Verena Blechinger-Talcott was delighted to meet the new general secretary of the China Scholarship Council, Sheng Jianxue, on June 26th at Freie Universität. General Secretary Sheng was equally glad and stressed the importance of Freie Universität as one of the most important partner universities of CSC in Germany. Freie Universität Berlin and CSC cooperate since 2008 and led several hundred PhD studens to their degree or supervised them in the "sandwich model" for one or two years, whereby STEM subjects grew in importance over the last years. According to General Secretary Sheng, many of the PhD students who graduated at FUB have very good opportunities for a professorship when they return to China. Many thanks were extended to the many supervisors who worked with the PhD students over all these years. Prof. MA Nan and Dr. Li Wenzhong (both biochemistry) and Prof. Theocharis Grigoriadis (economics, Eastern European studies) were representatives of this group and reported about their nearly completely positive experiences with the program and the students.
