At the opening of this year's International Week, Professor Stefanie Kaboth-Bahr spoke about "Our climate and the global responsibility of universities". In her lecture, she showed that if you trace climate fluctuations back over very long periods of time, the current rise in temperature is unprecedented. This warming affects people in the countries of the global South particularly severely. The main task of universities should be to counter the narrative that climate change has always existed. Instead, existing knowledge must be disseminated to all levels of society in order to establish acceptance for the urgency of climate protection. In the discussion moderated by Vice President Prof. Verena-Blechinger-Talcott, the 150 members of the International Staff Week audience from more than 40 countries discussed key climate protection measures at universities. The lecture is part of Freie Universität's annual lectures on the topic of "Global Responsibility."
