Final Presentation of Valeska Gert Visiting Professors of Dance and Performance at Institute of Theater Studies at Freie Universität

Red Light for Dr. Faustus. Work in Progress is the title of a performance to be given by the Institute of Theater Studies at Freie Universität in cooperation with the Academy of Arts and the German Academic Exchange Service on January 28, 2010. At the end of their stay as Valeska Gert Visiting Professors, the Argentinian artists Maricel Alvarez and Emilio Garcia Wehbi will be giving a final presentation of their research results jointly with dance studies students. The event in the Academy of Arts in Berlin-Mitte is open to the public.

Maricel Alvarez and Emilio Garcia Wehbi are a performing duo known in Argentinia as El Periférico de Objetos (The Peripherals of Objects). They perform at the interface between fine art and theater. Jointly with dance theater students, they began a research process starting with Doctor Faustus Lights the Lights (1938) by Gertrude Stein. The results are now being presented on stage. Following the performance, a conversation will take place between the artists and the scholar of theater studies, Professor Dr. Gabriele Brandstetter of Freie Universität.

The Valeska Gert Visiting Professorship at the Institute of Theater Studies is funded by Freie Universität Berlin, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the Academy of Arts, Berlin.
