Student Julia Richter Wins Bronze at 2010 World Rowing Championships in New Zealand

Winner in Stroke Position of Women’s Quadruple Scull

№ 345/2010 from Nov 11, 2010

Julia Richter, a student of communication studies and art history at Freie Universität Berlin, won the bronze medal in the World Rowing Championships in New Zealand. The 22-year-old rowed in the stroke position of the women’s quadruple scull. Her team placed just behind the teams from Great Britain and Ukraine. Julia Richter is one of nine athletes at Freie Universität who are being supported in high-performance sports through cooperation with the Berlin Olympic Center. It was her first participation in a world championship.

Julia Richter's team won a medal in spite of adversity: The strong and gusty wind made the 2000-meter course on Lake Karapiro seem like riding over speed bumps.
