Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016–2017: Freie Universität Berlin Ranks 75 Worldwide
Freie Universität among Top Five in Germany and 23rd in Europe

Freie Universität maintained its very good position in the new ranking of the prestigious magazine Times Higher Education (THE) in a global comparison and is ranked 75 (last year: 72). As announced by THE in London, the university ranks 23 in Europe (last year: 24) and is one of the five best universities in Germany.
The five best German universities in the world, according to the THE Ranking are Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München (rank 30), Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg (rank 43), Technische Universität München (rank 46), Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin (rank 57), and Freie Universität Berlin (rank 75). Since 2011, Freie Universität has improved in the world ranking by 76 places, and among European universities by 38 places.
The Times Higher Education Ranking is partly based on a global survey among researchers with regard to reputation, research, teaching, international orientation, citation frequency of publications, and statistical indicators.
