Academic Freedom and Internationalization

International Week from June 26 to 30, 2017 / Opening event: Lecture and discussion with provost of endangered Central European University

№ 168/2017 from Jun 23, 2017

This year's International Week at Freie Universität will start on June 26 with a lecture entitled "University and Public Policy – Truth and Freedom" by Professor Liviu Matei, the provost of Central European University (CEU) in Budapest, the university whose continued existence is uncertain. The event will begin at 4 p.m. in the Henry Ford Building; registration is not required. The opening event of this year's International Week is devoted to academic freedom. Over the week, more than 40 events for different target groups will deal with different aspects of international issues and the university. Some of the questions to be addressed are: Why are academic freedom and "internationalization" closely linked. How can cooperation with international institutions be established? More practical issues will also be addressed, such as: What are the various opportunities for exchange abroad? How do graduates of Freie Universität find their way to international professional fields? Most of the events are public, and admission is free.

The various offerings are aimed at students, researchers, and administrative staff. In lectures and workshops they can learn more about the university's international activities, country-specific cooperation programs, special offerings for international students, or funding programs. Cultural and festive events will also take place during the International Week.
