Inaugural Conference of the Maria Sibylla Merian International Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences on July 13 and 14

The Maria Sibylla Merian International Centre for Advanced Studies in the Humanities and Social Sciences Conviviality in Unequal Societies: Perspectives from Latin America will take up its work with a conference on "Conviviality in Unequal Societies." The research center is a collaborative project among institutions in Germany and Latin America. The aim of the inaugural conference is to present and discuss the Centre’s research perspective on conviviality in unequal societies in Latin America and the Caribbean with consortium partners, scholars, representatives of research institutions and the academic public in Germany. In addition to the key concepts, both theoretical and methodological approaches will be discusses. The conference language will be English. It is public and free of charge, but the number of participants is limited. Advance registration is requested by email: meriancentre@fu-berlin.de .

The Merian Centre "Conviviality in Unequal Societies: Perspectives from Latin America" was founded in April 2017 by three German and four Latin American partner institutions. It is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) for an initial period of three years. The participating researchers will investigate coexistence in unequal societies from an interdisciplinary and global perspective. The following institutions are involved: Freie Universität Berlin, Ibero-Amerikanisches Institut, the University of Cologne, Universidade de São Paulo, Centro Brasileiro de Análise e Planejamento, IdICHS (CONICET / Universidad Nacional de La Plata), and Colegio de México.
