How Will the Germans Vote on September 24?

Expert Forum on September 14, 2017, 12 noon: Experts at Freie Universität to Address the Media

№ 233/2017 from Sep 05, 2017

According to surveys, about 40 percent of the voters have not yet decided how they will vote in the German federal elections on September 24. With 42 political parties to choose from, there are more options than ever since the Federal Republic of Germany was founded. What problems will a new government have to deal with urgently? How open is the race between Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) and her challenger Martin Schulz (SPD)? What are the differences between the two candidates? What topics will ultimately be decisive? What foreign and domestic signals would come from a renewed victory by Angela Merkel or a victory by the SPD candidate Martin Schulz?

Political scientists and other scholars at Freie Universität Berlin will address these and other issues during an expert forum. The presentations and discussion will take place in German. There will be an opportunity to conduct interviews in English following the discussion.
