20 Years of International Summer and Winter University FUBiS at Freie Universität Berlin

Twentieth Anniversary Celebration on August 14, 2018

№ 108/2018 from May 22, 2018

This year the International Summer and Winter University, FUBiS, at Freie Universität Berlin is celebrating its 20th anniversary. On August 14, 2018, there will be an official anniversary celebration featuring the founders of the program and invited guests. Up to now, FUBiS has welcomed more than 8,000 students from over 67 countries to Freie Universität Berlin. Most of the attending students come from the USA, the People’s Republic of China, South Korea, and Brazil.

Representatives of the media are cordially invited to attend the event on August 14.

The summer university was founded in 1998 by the Division of International Affairs of Freie Universität Berlin. In 2007, a winter university was added. FUBiS has received numerous awards and in 2010 successfully completed the Quality Improvement Program (QUIP) of the Forum on Education Abroad. This year FUBiS is again participating in the Quality Improvement Program. An evaluation of the program through a peer review process is scheduled for August.

FUBiS takes place three times a year for three to six weeks. During the program students can attend German language classes as well as other subjects taught in English. The classes give the students insights into a variety of topics, including the history and politics of Germany and Europe, German literature, architecture, and art history. The program also included field trips within Berlin and day-long excursions and weekend trips to Lübeck, Dresden, Potsdam, and Leipzig.
