№ 197/2018 from Jul 22, 2018

The International Summer and Winter University of Freie Universität Berlin started on Sunday with 345 participants from 31 countries. During the four-week term, the students will attend German language classes as well as other subjects. Most of the students are from the United States, South Korea, and China. The current term will run through August 18.

In addition the German language classes, FUBiS offers 20 classes on different aspects of European politics, history, architecture, philosophy, literature, and other subjects. FUBiS also cooperates with the Utrecht Summer School to offer summer classes on European history and art history. For these classes the students travel to Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany.

For all the FUBiS courses, Freie Universität Berlin awards credits according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) system. The academic program on Freie Universität’s Lankwitz campus is augmented with field trips including a boat trip on the Spree River and a tour of the Reichstag. In addition, the participants can also take day-long excursions and weekend trips to Potsdam, Dresden, and Leipzig.

The FUBiS Summer University was held for the first time in 1998, and in 2007 a winter term was added. In 2010 the academic quality of FUBiS was recognized by the Forum on Education Abroad through its Quality Improvement Program (QUIP). In 2018 FUBiS welcomed a total of 531 students to Freie Universität Berlin.
