№ 369/2018 from Dec 19, 2018

The president of Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Dr. Sabine Kunst, and the president of Freie Universität Berlin, Prof. Dr. Günter M. Ziegler, welcomed the appointment of Prof. Dr. Heyo Kroemer as the next CEO of Charité – Universitätsmedizin. “Medicine is facing a change that is leading the health care system into completely new waters. For many years under the leadership of Professor Einhäupl, Charité was a flagship and pioneer of change. Professor Kroemer is also someone with a great deal of experience, and we are convinced that he will keep Charité on course and steer it to new shores,” said Sabine Kunst in Berlin. Günter M. Ziegler emphasized that he was looking forward to working with Professor Kroemer. Ziegler is confident that Kroemer will build on the excellent and trusting cooperation that exists with incumbent Professor Karl Max Einhäupl. Such continuity is of great importance for the joint proposal of Freie Universität, Humboldt-Universität, Technische Universität, and Charité in the German government’s ongoing Excellence Strategy.

On Monday the supervisory board of Charité named the pharmacologist Prof. Dr. Heyo Kroemer as the successor to Professor Einhäupl, who has headed Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin since 2008. Kroemer will take office in September 2019. Charité is the medical school operated jointly by Freie Universität and Humboldt-Universität.
