International Summer and Winter University FUBiS at Freie Universität Berlin Starts New Year with 145 Participants

145 Students from 14 Countries

№ 001/2020 from Jan 04, 2020

To kick off the International Summer and Winter University FUBiS in 2020, Freie Universität Berlin welcomed 145 students from 14 countries to Berlin on Saturday, January 4, 2020. In the first 3-week FUBiS term of the new year, the students can enroll in several of 12 academic classes in German as a foreign language and other subjects such as history. Most of the students this term are from South Korea, the United States, and Australia. The term will run through January 24.

Besides German language courses for all language levels, FUBiS offers various courses on European politics, history, philosophy, and other topics that are taught in English.

For all the FUBiS courses, Freie Universität Berlin awards credits according to the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) system. The academic program includes cultural activities and excursions. The lecturers use the city of Berlin as a classroom – museums, locations with historical significance, and personal exchange with political and societal decision makers all play a major role.

The FUBiS Summer University was held for the first time in 1998, and in 2007 a winter term was added. In 2010 the academic quality of FUBiS was recognized by the Forum on Education Abroad through its Quality Improvement Program (QUIP), and in 2018 it was reevaluated and passed again. It is the only summer and winter university in Germany that successfully completed the QUIP evaluation. In 2019 FUBiS welcomed a total of 594 students from 40 countries to Freie Universität Berlin.
