Biology students rated support during their studies, examination prodedures, the teaching of skills needed in biology, and scientific relevance as very good. Those studying biochemistry highly praised the scientific relevance and good career orientation. Chemistry students appreciate the organization of the degree programs and teaching of skills needed in chemistry. Physics students also appreciate the organization of the degree programs and the equipment in the laboratories. In research the subjects of computer science and mathematics were ranked in the top group for doctorates per professor, and just as in political science, for third-party funds per academic staff. The Earth sciences were ranked in the top group for publications per academic staff.

In the CHE University Ranking, one third of the subjects are reassessed each year. This year the assessed subjects are: biochemistry, mathematics, physics, and politcal science. According to CHE, more than 300 universities and universities of applied science are evaluated. In addition to facts about studying, teaching, and research, the assessments are based on data from surveys of students. The students answered questions about how they find the conditions for studying in general as well as concrete criteria such as advising and support in their studies or for stays abroad. Other questions pertained to the curricula, organization of studies, and examination procedures. Furthermore, they were asked how they find the career orientation, contact with the work environment, the rooms, library facilities, and the IT infrastructure.
