From the very beginning, Freie Universität Berlin has been dedicated to upholding the principles of democracy, freedom, and autonomy. Due to its unique history and the reasons why it was founded, Freie Universität Berlin is very conscious of its responsibility to society and has a long track record of supporting humanitarian causes around the globe.

Many members of our university also spend their free time volunteering for different charities and non-profit organizations at home and abroad. It is in this spirit that we want to make our anniversary year an opportunity to celebrate and an occasion to donate to a worthy cause. We want to use our unique position to shine a light on crises currently affecting other parts of the world and continue our tradition of social engagement and responsibility by sending aid to those in need.

Fundraising Campaign

University members and friends of Freie Universität are encouraged to take part in this year’s special fundraising campaign: “Seventy-Five Years of Free Thinking: Celebrate and Donate” in support of the international medical relief organization, Médecins Sans Frontières. Thousands of humanitarian aid workers from over seventy countries around the world contribute to the organization. They include doctors, nurses, psychologists, administrative staff, and logistics experts who are ready to provide emergency medical care wherever it is needed.
