Digital Storytelling in Academia

Digital Storytelling in Academia

The Workshop “Digital Storytelling in Academia” was organized in collaboration with Asli Telli and Yilak Kebede of the AiS Network and Bart Vetsuypens from Comundos and took place between 3.-5. November at the International House of Freie Universität, Berlin.

This workshop aimed at introducing participants of the workshop to the concept and approach of digital storytelling, showing its tools and methods and how to engage in digital storytelling for different uses and contexts. Twelve members from the AiS network attended the workshop and designed their own digital story during the three days. Participants learned how to present their research to audiences at conferences, how to use digital tools for social networking, political engagement or as a means of personal expression. The workshop walked the participants through the latest data storytelling examples, gave tips on how to get their research and experiences across to the right audience, introduced the basics of video-editing and voice-recording and helped mentees to adapt the notion of digital storytelling to their stories in mind. At the final day of the workshop, participants presented their videos and work in progress to everyone present.
