"Freie Universität alumni from New York and neighboring states of New Jersey, Connecticut and Washington DC met together for a luncheon at the Austrian restaurant Schilling on Dec. 2, 2021. The Chef prepared an exceptional menu for the event that included the crowd favorite - Schnitzel. The gathering included a diversity of alumni that not only spanned various faculties and study programs (short term programs to complete doctoral study, research and teaching) but also the length of time from active students to alumni who graduated in the 1980s. During the luncheon, alumni mingled among each other and applauded the initiative by Freie Universität Berlin Alumni Office in organizing this event especially against the backdrop of COVID-19 and zoom fatigue. There were discussions about hosting another such gathering in Washington DC as well as a summer picnic in Central Park. The welcoming introduction highlighted “active alumni engagement and participation” as the motivation behind the gathering. Guests of Freie Universität included DAAD rep. Uta Gaedeke and German Consulate N.Y. rep. Yasemin Pamuk." -- Priya S. Nayar, Alumna, FUBIS summer program 2011

"I was very happy to be invited to the WAC in New York and to meet so many interesting alumni of Freie Universität. The relaxed atmosphere and the stimulating exchange during and after the luncheon contributed to a great event." -- Marie Gräf, Alumna, master's program North-American Studies 2022
