Direct Exchange Programs

Freie Universität Berlin maintains about 90 direct exchange programs with partner universities throughout the world. Direct exchange means that placements in renowned partner universities are open to students from Freie Universität Berlin, based on mutual and reciprocal agreements. Therefore, students from Freie Universität Berlin are offered the possibility to study abroad and gain international experiences for one or two semesters. The acquisition of credit points is mandatory for direct exchange students. More information about the program and the partner universities in the Middle East and North Africa here.

HAW.International: Study and Research Visits Abroad

The practice-oriented studies at technical colleges and colleges of applied sciences (HAW/FH) are well-respected in Germany and in the world. The DAAD supports HAW/FH students in their stays abroad and the universities in cooperation projects with international partners. Wafedin Scholarship for German students

Through the Wafedin program, the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education offers the scholarship recipients Arabic language courses combined to an auditor status at an Egyptian state university. The scholarship currently includes a monthly contribution to the cost of living during the stay in Egypt, payment of the tuition fees with the status of guest student at a state university and, if necessary, a return flight ticket Egypt-Germany after the end of the stay.

PROMOS – Programme for the mobility of under- and postgraduate students

The program promotes the mobility of students and doctoral candidates at German universities. The funding is allocated to the universities for the independent implementation and processing of the funding measures selected by the university. Applications can be submitted by any state or state-recognized German university via the International Office or another central administrative facility of the university. A more detailed description of the program can be found on the DAAD website (In German).
