"Limited Mobility / Forced Migration":

Nov 03, 2015

Dr. Florian Kohstall, head of the Freie Universität Berlin Cairo Office, gives a talk on Challenges for Higher Education Cooperation in the Mediterranean on 5th November 6 p.m. at the Netherlands-Flemish Institute in Cairo.

For the last two decades internationalisation has acted as the major driver for university reform in the Mediterranean. However, mobility for many students and academics has remained limited. The current refugee crisis seriously challenges previous concepts of mobility. This lecture traces the path of higher education reforms in Egypt and the wider Mediterranean region. By doing so it aims to assess the state of mobility, discuss current responses to migration and explore possible implications for EU-Egypt university cooperation.

Dr. Florian Kohstall is the head of Freie Universität Berlin Cairo Office at the German Science Centre. His research focuses on higher education reforms and the transformation of social sciences. Kohstall is a member of the Arab German Young Academy.
