With its FIT programme line, the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports German universities in better preparing international students and graduates for the German labour market. Funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the ‘Campus Initiative for International Experts’ helps to expand career services and support structures in order to remove obstacles to integration into the labour market.
The FUSE project (FUB Students & Employers - academic success and career integration for international Master's students) aims to counter the shortage of skilled workers in the Berlin-Brandenburg region and at the same time fulfil the desire of international Master's students for a successful career after graduation.
The diverse measures implemented in the FUSE project support international students throughout the entire student life cycle and supplement personalised measures with the structural development of sustainable cooperation networks both within and outside the university.
Targeted interventions take into account the various facets of academic success and labour market integration and make it possible to
- Ensure academic success through counselling and support for international Master's students, especially in the entry and final phases of their studies;
- increase enthusiasm and aptitude for and knowledge of careers in Germany for Master's students, particularly through practical phases close to their degree programme and career counselling, and
- to enable seamless transitions from university to the skilled labour market in the region.
What measures are planned in the Career Service?
- Practical phases during studies: job shadowing and internship programme for international Master's students
- Skill building: workshops and events on starting a career and the labour market in Germany
- Language course: German in working life
- Career counselling: career goal setting, orientation, application coaching
- Get Connected: events for networking with employers, HR managers, young professionals, alumni and other network partners
