DAHLEM POSTDOC Fellowship 2017: Transregional networks in the philological and devotional practices of Shiʻi communities in Oman and Zanzibar
Zahir Bhalloo explores the transregional networks of minority Shii Muslim communities settled in Oman and Zanzibar. His project draws upon private family archives and ethnographic research on ritual practice in order to understand the emergence of these networks and their role in shaping the distinctive Shiite religious cultures of these communities in their diasporic context from the late eighteenth century to present times.
