Esther Hirsch is a cantor in the Jewish Community of Berlin – in fact, the only female one! A native Berliner, she grew up in the Jewish children's choir of the community and later took over the leadership of Berlin's first Reform congregation since the Shoah together with Rabbi Prof. Andreas Nachama. She studied law and is (since 2018) a theological advisor at the House of One, an interfaith foundation in Berlin, together with her colleague Imam Osman Örs. In the government-funded program Demokratie leben!, she addresses the topics of democracy and the role of religions in a diverse society. This input is aimed particularly at multipliers in the public sector such as teachers, educators, and police officers.
