Hannah Aeterna Borne is a PhD candidate at the Berlin Graduate School for Global and Transregional Studies at the Cluster of Excellence “Contestations of the Liberal Script” (SCRIPTS). She studied International Relations at Freie Universität Berlin (MA), and American Studies at Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the University of Utah (BA). Her research interests encompass international security, surveillance technologies, international politics of human rights and digital rights, and critical IR theory. In her doctoral project, she analyzes the use of satellite surveillance technology in international conflict.

She previously held various student research and tutor positions in the academic sector with respective foci on international security policy, security and surveillance, and US foreign policy. Beyond academia, she has held internships at think tanks and human rights NGOs in Salt Lake City and Vienna. Most recently, she has worked at a Berlin-based European think tank focusing on digital rights, surveillance, and democracy.
