International Week 2023 to Kick Off with Event Commemorating Sixty Years since John F. Kennedy’s Speech at Freie Universität Berlin

This year not only marks the seventy-fifth anniversary of Freie Universität Berlin’s founding, but also the sixtieth anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s iconic speech on its campus. The university will be celebrating this milestone on June 26 with a lecture on the current state of academic freedom by Anita Traninger, this year’s Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize recipient and professor of Romance languages and literatures. She will be followed by legal scholar Conrado Hübner Mendes, who will talk about the state of academic freedom in his home country of Brazil. The talks will be held in English and prior registration is required. The event will also kick off International Week 2023 at Freie Universität Berlin, which will take place from June 26 to 30, 2023.
