International Club of Freie Universität Berlin
The International Club is a non-partisan, religiously unaffiliated group of students, doctoral candidates, scholars, faculty, staff, and friends of Freie Universität coming from Germany and from abroad. Together we promote friendship between nations and strengthen cultural understanding.
We see ourselves as an organization “by students – for students.” Coming from different disciplines, our staff and members represent numerous diverse experiences. Together, this pooling of interdisciplinary knowledge and talents creates the unique atmosphere of the International Club.
Many of our team members have been abroad themselves and know exactly how it feels to adapt to and settle in a new country. Our shared belief in a peaceful and multicultural society as well as our versatility make us volunteer and openly welcome people to Freie Universität, to Berlin, and to Germany. Therefore, the team of the International Club organizes several cultural events throughout each semester. These include visits to museums in Berlin, alternative guided tours through different parts and monuments in the city, sport activities, outdoor activities, day trips to nearby German cities, and the monthly bar night.
The International Club has more than 300 members from all continents. Membership is divided equally between students from Germany and abroad. Thus, the International Club has succeeded in being an international forum for all students and friends of Freie Universität.
International students face various challenges that require comprehensive and innovative support and consulting services. Helping with university as well as everyday life in a foreign country is of utmost importance to experiencing a successful stay and study abroad.
That is why the International Club organizes more than 80 events attracting more than 1,000 participants throughout the academic year. Thus, it actively promotes intercultural dialogue and catalyzes the process of integration of international students. Strengthening intercultural competences is seen as very crucial in a globalized world that we find ourselves living in. The International Club is very proud to promote these skills among its members.
The International Club aims to:
- facilitate the integration of international students into university and everyday life in Berlin
- promote the internationalization of Freie Universität
- support intercultural dialog
- strengthen the students’ intercultural competences
The team of the International Club wants to offer an international forum for students, faculty, staff, and friends of Freie Universität to get to know each other and to meet and informally discuss international developments, exchange programs, internships in Germany and abroad. To us, international friendships are the best way of integrating into life in Berlin and strengthening cross-cultural understanding beyond the academic setting.
