Plastic packaging and other plastic waste

>>> Yellow bin

All plastic packaging belongs in the yellow garbage can. It does not matter whether the packaging has a "green dot" on it, because there are now other collection systems in accordance with the Packaging Ordinance. The yellow garbage can may therefore contain:

  • Coffee to-go cups including lids
  • Disposable plastic cups, disposable plastic tableware, disposable plastic cutlery
  • Plastic packaging such as films, blister packs, molded plastic inserts in cardboard boxes, etc.
  • Plastic bottles e.g. for washing-up liquids, cooking oils, drugstore products etc.
  • non-deposited plastic beverage bottles
  • Foils and plastic bags
  • Foams from the packaging sector
  • Styrofoam and styrofoam moldings from the packaging sector
  • Plastic cups and plastic containers such as yogurt pots, margarine tins, etc.
  • Composite packaging such as tetrapaks
  • Original plastic chemical bottles, if they have been cleaned and, if applicable, outgassed and, if applicable, the hazardous material labeling has been removed or made unrecognizable.

In Berlin, the yellow garbage can is operated as a so-called recyclables garbage can. This means that waste of the same material that does not fall under the Packaging Ordinance may also be disposed of in the yellow garbage can. This means, for example, that the following waste can also be disposed of in the yellow garbage can:

  • Plastic folders and plastic staplers from the office area
  • Overhead projector films
  • Broken plastic filing boxes
  • Reusable plastic cups, reusable plastic tableware, reusable plastic cutlery

ATTENTION: DO NOT INCLUDE IN THE YELLOW BIN any plastic waste whose origin can be attributed to the construction sector or which is unsuitable for recycling. This includes:

  • Foils from the building sector (>>> Technical Department)
  • Styrofoam and other insulating materials from the construction sector (>>> Technical Department)
  • Folders with plastic cover (>>> Residual waste)
  • CDs, DVDs (>>> Residual waste)
