Bulky waste

>>> Sonderentsorgung über die Stabsstelle Nachhaltigkeit & Energie

In simple terms, bulky waste includes all items that no longer fit into the normal residual waste containers. This primarily includes discarded furniture, tables and chairs, but also carpets and mattresses.

Bulky waste does not include lamps and electrical appliances, even if they are bulky. For more details, see electrical appliances.

Larger quantities of bulky waste are usually generated during moves or in the run-up to renovation work. However, individual items can also be disposed of as bulky waste if required. In all cases, please contact the Sustainability & Energy Unit, Special Disposal Team, directly or use the Special Disposal Request Form.

Please check whether a request for segregation must be submitted to the Asset Accounting Department of Freie Universität Berlin before disposing of furniture or other items.

ATTENTION: For furniture that is no longer needed, continued use should always be considered first. For this purpose, there are two important facilities at Freie Universität Berlin to which you can offer your furniture:

  • The Möbellager, where preferably standard university furniture is stored temporarily to be used again elsewhere, and
  • the FUndgrube, the intranet-based central marketplace for the reuse of furniture and objects.
