This year’s Fashion Revolution Week from 20th – 26th April shows how protests and debates can be relocated to the internet. In addition to the annual social media campaign #WhomademyClothes, this week will offer other online formats for participation and debate.

News from Apr 22, 2020

This year, the Fashion Revolution Week once again calls for a critical glance at the fast fashion industry and discussion of alternative visions of the future. This year marks the seventh anniversary of the tragic collapse of the Rana Plaza factory building in Bangladesh, which killed more than 1,000 people - mostly female textile workers.

Due to worldwide contact restrictions and precautions in regards to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Fashion Revolution team is offering creative online formats this year.

On Friday, April 24, experts from the fashion industry will debate the future of the sector under this year's motto "Mass consumption: The end of an era". The Fashion Revolution Question Time can be followed live on YouTube from 12 noon onwards.

The Fashion Revolution Week will conclude on Sunday with another discussion on the future of the global fashion system. The discussion will start at 6 p.m. via a YouTube livestream. Questions can be submitted via Twitter to @fash_rev. True to the motto "It's just as important to mend our clothes as it is to mend broken systems", the format also invites to join the stitching while listening by coming prepared with a mending or making project.

An overview of all formats offered online can be found here. In addition to the online events, the well-known hashtag #whomademyclothes will of course again draw attention to the poor working conditions and environmental impact of the fast fashion industry on all social media platforms.
