Hale Şirin is a doctoral student in Comparative Literature in the Humanities Center at Johns Hopkins University. She received her MA at the University of Chicago in Social Sciences, with the thesis entitled “The Crisis of Narrative: Thomas Mann’s Doktor Faustus and Maurice Blanchot’s L'Arrêt de mort”.

Secularization of Concepts in the 19th-and-20th-century Turkish and German literatures

Hale Şirin's research interests include nineteenth and twentieth-century philosophy and literature, secularism, narrative theory and politics. Specifically, her research focuses on the secularization of concepts in Turkish, German and French literatures in the nineteenth and twentieth-centuries from a transnational standpoint.
