This year the University Alliance for Sustainability (UAS) dedicated its annual conference to young researchers who aspire to address future challenges for humanity and to make the world a better place. For this, a promising exchange of ideas between junior and senior researchers and practitioners from the UAS and the Una Europa Alliance was facilitated throughout the digital Emerging Researcher’s Conference 2022. Both alliances served as a platform for sustainability in research and teaching. The purpose of the conference was to inspire networking among young researchers and support their future careers.
Focusing on sustainability research of tomorrow, the conference lived up to its promising title ‘Building Digital Bridges and Exploring the SDG Discourse’. The participants from different disciplines enjoyed high-quality exchange about topics such as digitalization and other megatrends as well as some individual guidance by Dr. Berthold Kuhn in terms of challenges related to the design and conduct of their dissertation projects.
The program between November 1 and 9 was organized around the online PhD-Workshop ‘Transdisciplinary perspectives on sustainable development research’ conducted by Dr. Berthold Kuhn, a political scientist and Ph.D. supervisor with long-time involvement in UAS activities. We have seen a week of intense peer-to-peer exchanges among researchers from different countries and world regions. Some of their Ph.D. projects were very closely related to the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
It was a pleasure to host a diverse group of highly motivated researchers from different academic disciplines during these 9 days of networking in our virtual conference setting.
