Short-term lectureship at the St. Petersburg State University

Professor Grigoriadis on Sustainable Urbanization

Theocharis Grigoriadis, professor at Freie Universität Berlin, gave lectures for students of the master's program "Environmental Management" on "Economic and Environmental Aspects of Sustainable Urbanization", and also met with the students of the program "Polar and Marine Research (POMOR)".

The visit was part of a joint project of the St. Petersburg State University and the Freie Universität Berlin funded by the Joint Seed Fund of both universities. Project participants from St. Petersburg State University - Associate Professor Nikolai Bobylev (Department of Ecological Safety and Sustainable Development of the Regions) and Professor Alexander Sergunin (Department of Theory and History of International Relations) have already taught a course on “Global Environmental Change” at Freie Universität December 2017.

Furthermore, an open scientific seminar was held, at which Professor Grigoriadis and Deputy General Director of the Urbanism Institute for Territorial Planning, Alexander Kholodnov, spoke. During the discussion, speakers, staff and students discussed issues of environmental planning in Germany, the United States and Russia, as well as the economic success of cities based on the creation of an environmentally friendly environment.

In addition to academic issues, colleagues from Russia and Germany discussed plans for future cooperation. In particular, Director of the Institute of Earth Sciences and Vice President of the Russian Geographical Society Prof. Kirill Chistyakov and the guest from Berlin discussed the organization of a summer school dedicated to the problems of environmental management.
