The appointment of an Open Science and an Open Access Representative is intended to promote the free dissemination of academic knowledge.

News from Jan 22, 2025

Frank Fischer, Professor of Digital Humanities at the Department of Philosophy and Humanities, is taking up the newly created post of Open Science Representative. He will promote the principles of open science throughout the university and develop innovative strategies for networking science and society.

Dennis Mischke, who holds a doctorate in American Studies and is Head of the Research and Publication Services Department at the University Library of Freie Universität Berlin, will take over the position of Open Access Officer, which has been in place since 2012. He will advocate for the free accessibility of publications, research data and software.

With these measures, Freie Universität Berlin is underlining its commitment to transparency, traceability and social accessibility of research results. It has been committed to these issues for almost two decades – for example, by signing the “Berlin Declaration” in 2006, introducing an open access policy in 2008 and updating it in 2021.

As the University Library, we are delighted about this appointment and the opportunity to further strengthen open access to knowledge in this way.
