Changes to your personal data (name, address, date of birth) for DoSV applications are only possible via Hochschulstart.

If you have made an application (e.g. Pharmacy, Veterinary medicine) to hochschulstart.de for our university, you can link these applications in the application portal under "Personal Information" (on the right side of the screen) using the button:

Link with hochschulstart.de account

to be able to view the status of this application.

If you wish to change your university entrance qualification data, you must withdraw all applications already submitted and resubmit them after the change.

Please note: Changes are only possible during the application period.

No, only one application is permitted for the higher semester.

First you need to create an online application for the desired field of study, select yes under the item "Registration for the language test" and submit it

In the application portal of Freie Universität Berlin you will find the tab "Information for subjects with language test" on the right side of the screen. At the end you will find the button "Register for the language test". Use this to register in the test registration portal via Navigation → Your registrations or to deregister for the required language test. Please note that there may be multiple dates per language to choose from, but you can only select one date per language.

If you have applied for more than one philology (e.g. English Philology and French Philology), a separate language test registration is required per language. After completing the registration, you will receive a confirmation email.

If you are applying for the 1st semester, a preliminary overall grade must be shown on the transcript. If this is not the case, please submit a certificate from your university confirming the preliminary overall grade.

For applications to the higher semester in the Master's program, a transcript from the Master's program already completed is also mandatory apart from the Bachelor's degree. For applications to the 2nd semester, evidence of registered courses must also be uploaded.

Depending on the study objective, different numbers of applications for admission can be submitted in parallel, but no more than a total of three applications for admission-restricted study programs in the 1st semester in undergraduate study programs.
Applicants for a second study program can submit only one application to Freie Universität Berlin according to BerlHZVO § 11 (1).
Applicants with professional qualifications group 3 can submit only one application to Freie Universität Berlin according to BerlHG § 11 (3) (Berlin Higher Education Act).

You can make two applications of equal value for the first semester.

Log in to the application portal. Here you have the option of using the "Withdraw and edit application" button to edit the application within the application deadline and then submit it again.

You can withdraw your application at any time by clicking on the button "Withdraw application", however, you will not participate in the admission procedure.

Log in to the application portal. Here you have the option of not accepting the admission offer by clicking on the "Return place" button.

Please note that the study place is then no longer available to you and this action cannot be reversed.

Please note that the application for a study place at Freie Universität Berlin is exclusively online and the application documents (depending on the application group) must be uploaded while filling out the online application (as a readable pfd. document or jpg,, properly rotated). This applies, among other things, to all applications for a master's degree, for a higher semester, for a second degree, with a special or additional application, and professionally qualified applicants.

Please inform yourself in advance on our application websites or the corresponding information pages of the departments for master's applications which application documents are required so that you can fill out and submit the online application quickly and easily.

Forms = Applications

The most important step of your application is the completion of your application form: here you select the desired degree, the subject(s) of study and indicate in which semester you would like to start studying at our university.
After you have entered all the information, you will find your application form on the overview page under Applications in preparation. You can now make changes until you hand in your form and thus officially submit it.
As a general rule, the university will not consider forms in the status in preparation. To submit an application to the university, you must submit the application. Submitted applications will be assigned the status of received, valid, or denied admission. Applications with the status received will be reviewed by the university.

By clicking on Add form you can add an application. You will be taken to the entry of the necessary data for the desired study program. Mandatory information is marked with an *.
Please check your information thoroughly before submitting the application. By submitting an online application, you affirm that all information provided is correct and that you have been advised that incorrect information will invalidate your admission in the event that you are granted a study place.

Please note that it is not possible to create a new form for the same desired course of study, including degree and semester. If you have discovered an error in the form you have already submitted, you can revise and resubmit the form within the respective deadline by clicking on the button Withdraw and edit form. However, this is not possible for forms with the status "valid". Valid forms cannot be revised by applicants. If you need to make an important change, e.g. regarding university entrance or master's entrance qualification, semesters studied, information on previous studies, etc., please contact us before the application deadline by e-mail: zulassung@fu-berlin.de.

You can check your details from the online application at any time by having the control sheet output as a pdf file. It shows you the details of your application at a glance. You will need a pdf program (e.g. Adobe Acrobat) to do this.
The control sheet is recreated every time you make a change to an application and therefore always contains the most up-to-date data (depending on the time).
If, for example, you are taking a language or placement test at Freie Universität Berlin or have applied for an exemption from the language test, the test result or placement result will be displayed on the control sheet once it is available. Therefore, please ensure that you have an updated version for your records as well as a later enrollment / registration via the Campus Management System for certain language practice courses.

Applications for Master's programs are reviewed in two steps. First, a formal review of all documents takes place. After a successful formal review, the applications are released for further review by the responsible selection officers of the departments. The selection officers make the final decision on the fulfillment of the admission requirements according to the admission statutes (degree, if applicable, language skills, other achievements and certificates).
If it is determined during the formal examination that the application documents are faulty or illegible or do not meet the requirements, the application will not be forwarded to the department, but will be provisionally excluded with reasons for rejection. Some reasons for rejection are "curable" within the application deadline (e.g. a subsequent submission of higher-level language certificates to fulfill the admission requirements). Therefore, it is possible to withdraw an application within the deadline visible in the portal, revise it by adding new documents, and submit it again.

Please read our information on application, admission, placement by the examination office and enrollment.

  1.  Please read the information on our web pages about changing universities and lateral entry.
  2. Freie Universität Berlin does not check the crediting of previous academic achievements in admission-restricted and multiple degree programs as part of the application process, but only after admission has been granted.
  3.  The responsibility for credit transfer lies with the departments. You will find the contact persons of the departments under "Classification in higher semesters".
