Language Requirements for Japanese-Japan Program:
For English-taught classes: CEFR: B2 (verifiable by FU language certificate)/ TOEFL iBT 79
For Japanese-taught classes: Japanse Language Proficiency Test N2 or higher
At least one of the listed language certificates must be submitted at the time of application.
Program: English-Speaking:
The English-language courses are mainly available in the Natural Sciences and Social Sciences. It does not apply to Law and Economics and not to Japanese Studies.
All exchange students can attend Japanese courses for beginners, for which certificates of attendance can be issued.
MA students and PhDs are usually enrolled as "guest researchers", in Tsukuba no credit points are awarded at Master and PhD level.
Program: Japanese-Speaking:
Applicants for the "Japanese Program" must have Japanese language skills. Please see DA Japan
Additional Scholarships:
There will likely be an opportunity to apply for a JASSO scholarship at the University of Tsukuba. However, there is no guarantee that the University of Tsukuba will offer this scholarship or that an application will be successful.
Additional Costs:
National health insurance: ~23,000 JPY/ year
Personal accident insurance for students of education research: 1000 - 1750 JPY/ year
Students must provide proof of funds amounting to 80,000 JPY/ month in order to obtain a visa.
