Important Information for the language certificate

The language that is crucial for your project

Please submit a language certificate of the language you need for your project abroad. For example, if you are doing an English-language project in French-speaking Switzerland, we absolutely expect you to submit proof of English language proficiency. Knowledge of the regional language is an advantage in any case and can be enclosed with the application. If you do not have a TOEFL or IELTS test or other evidence from universities and other language and higher education institutions, you can use the DAAD language certificate. Please contact the Language Center of the FU Berlin for this. Shortly before the end of the PROMOS application deadlines, experience has shown that it is difficult to get an appointment in time. Therefore, please make sure to make an appointment in time.

Abitur certificates are not accepted as proof of language proficiency.

German as project language

If you are conducting your project abroad mainly in German (e.g. as an assistant in German as a foreign language), please note this on a separate sheet which you submit instead of the language certificate. In this case, too, proven foreign language skills in the local regional language(s) are an advantage.
