The academic year at FU Berlin consists of two semesters that are each divided into the period during which classes are in session (Vorlesungszeit) and the period during which classes are not in session (Vorlesungsfreie Zeit). Exams usually take place during the last two weeks of class or the first week of the Vorlesungsfreie Zeit. The dates of the academic year are as follows:
