For admittance to the master’s program applicants need to fulfill the following admission requirements:
-
Bachelor’s degree in philosophy or an equivalent degree with at least 60 credit points in philosophy.
-
Proof of English language skills (level B2 CEFR) or equivalent.
Applicants who have obtained their degree from a foreign university or an equivalent institution must provide proof of German language skills. This can be done by passing the German language examination (DSH) to qualify for university entrance or by providing evidence of an equivalent level of German knowledge in accordance with the regulations for the German language examination (DSH) for foreign applicants at Freie Universität Berlin.
In this research-oriented master’s program, students expand their knowledge of philosophy in the full spectrum and variety of its traditions. Two aspects characterize the degree program: It offers students the greatest possible freedom to immerse themselves in special areas of study of their own choosing, and it makes it possible for students to engage in the interdisciplinary aspects of philosophy. Students acquire analytic, hermeneutic, and logical-argumentative competencies oriented toward current research questions. They do so by using the texts and the tools necessary for independent scholarly work and the presentation of results.
