The "Master's Degree with a Major in Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy" is a research and application-oriented course of study that qualifies students for the state licensing examination in psychotherapy. The study program deepens the knowledge in clinical psychology and psychotherapy, in particular the students learn the scientifically based application of psychotherapeutic competences of different procedures and methods. In the Master’s program, all scientifically recognized procedures are taught by lecturers with a corresponding background, so that a qualified decision for a procedure can be made at the end of the study. The focus of course contents is primarily on behavioral therapy. For example, all students complete an internship outpatient psychotherapy at the university outpatient clinic of Freie Universität Berlin, which works with behavioral therapy. The course content explicitly includes ecological, social, cultural and institutional conditions as well as the influence of gender roles.
Sound training in methods and diagnostics is provided. The teaching of general methodological competencies is complemented by subject-specific methodological courses on care and intervention research and on specific diagnostic procedures and methods, as well as by individualized advising in the planning and execution of the master's thesis.
The content of the program is based on the licensing regulations for psychotherapists (further information here) Students can choose from different specializations in the basic psychological subjects. Further options exist between thematically different seminars of clinical psychology and psychotherapy.
