Theories and Practices of the Modern Tragic

Cristina Savettieri studied at the University of Pisa (Italy) where she obtained her Ph.D. She is currently Alexander von Humboldt fellow and she is working on a book on the legacy of tragedy in the modern novel. Her project seeks to tackle the traditional opposition between tragedy and the novel, focusing on its historical and theoretical origins and reflecting upon the disjunction between theories of the tragic and narrative practices. In particular, she aims at studying the tragic as a fictional mode widely spread in the European novel between the second half of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century.
