Simon Mills works on the religious, cultural, and intellectual history of the period from the late seventeenth to the early nineteenth century with a particular focus on the history of biblical and oriental studies, the intersections between theological and philosophical thought, and the circulation of knowledge in the early modern world. He received his PhD from Queen Mary, University of London in 2009, and since then has held fellowships at the Council for British Research in the Levant and the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities, University of Cambridge. As a POINT fellow, he is researching the reception of the historical and geographical writings of the Arabic author Abu’l-Fidā’ (1273–1331) among European oriental scholars of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
