SPECIAL SESSION OF THE UNITED NATIONS SECURITY COUNCIL

ON NUCLEAR NON-PROLIFERATION: THE CASE OF IRAN

Berlin, 20 November 2009

 

On 14 September 2009, IAEA Director General Mohammed ElBaradei told the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency that concerning Iran’s nuclear programme "a number of questions and allegations that cast doubt on the peaceful nature of that programme are still outstanding".

In order to ensure that these questions and allegations are answered and the Iran case may be closed, the Security Council has convened a Special Session on 20 November 2009 in Berlin. Together with Diplomats from Iraq, students from all departments are invited to represent the current Members of the Council.

For your preparation, we will provide a comprehensive Background Guide. Additionally, there will be two mandatory preparation meetings (27 Oct, 14.00 - 15.30h; 19 Nov, 18.00 - 20.00h) where all Delegations will meet and participants are introduced to the topic and the rules of procedure. Please note that Delegations are asked to prepare Position Papers. The Conference language will be English.

It is possible to receive credits (Schlüsselqualifikationsschein, FB Rechtswissenschaft) if you additionally write an essay.

Members of the Security Council in 2009: Austria, Burkina Faso, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, France, Japan, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Mexico, Russian Federation, Turkey, Uganda, United Kingdom, United States, Viet Nam.

 

Conference Fee: € 18,- (for preparation and conference material, as well as catering during the conference)
