Research assistant (Postdoc) (m/f/d) full-time job limited to 4 years salary grade (Entgeltgruppe) 13 TV-L FU reference code: Geo_Tektonik_2024_06

Bewerbungsende: 12.08.2024

Applications are invited for appointment as Post-doctoral Fellow in Tectonics and Tectonophysics (m/f/d), to commence as soon as possible in full time for four years.

Job description:
The appointee will conduct (1) tectonics research, with projects devised independently and/or in collaboration with members of the Tectonics and Tectonophysics team, and (2) teach tectonics-disciplinary classes in the undergraduate and/or Masters programmes. Our present research projects explore development of early Earth and hot terrestrial planets; Himalayan tectonics in Earth system science context; surface salt tectonics; structural issues with societal impact (e.g., groundwater dynamics), and the tectonics of the north-eastern Mediterranean region. Consistent with these diverse projects, our group has similarly diverse research interests, skills, and backgrounds. The research group offers an intercultural, open-minded, versatile and family-friendly working environment.

Requirements:
Completed scientific university degree (PhD / doctorate) in Geology or a related research field relevant to the area of responsibility, with a predominantly geological character.

Desirable:
- Research experience in one or more of the following disciplines: structural geology, tectonics, geodynamics, geo-/thermo-chronology, petrology, Earth and/or planetary system science, remote sensing. Broader disciplinary backgrounds may be considered if the applicant can use their skills to develop and test tectonic concepts; we actively seek group members from diverse backgrounds.
- Teaching experience in structural geology and / or related disciplines.
- Our projects typically involve coordination of research teams from different fields, so fluency in English is very important.
- Fluency in German is a plus; the applicant should be able to teach in German within three years of beginning the position.
- Ability to drive and a driver’s license, to better enable field-based teaching.

We actively encourage applications by women. Female candidates with equivalent qualifications and academic achievements will be preferentially considered within the framework of the legal possibilities. We also welcome applications from candidates with severe disabilities. Disabled candidates with equivalent qualifications will be preferentially considered, although some restrictions related to the access to laboratory facilities may apply.
