Fachbereich Geowissenschaften - Institut für Geologische Wissenschaften Sedimentary Systems

Research assistant (postdoc) (m/f/d) full-time job limited to 4 years salary grade (Entgeltgruppe) 13 TV-L FU reference code: SedSys_2024_07_Postdoc_EN

Bewerbungsende: 23.09.2024

We are the research group “Sedimentary Systems” of the Institute of Geological Sciences at the Freie Universität Berlin under the direction of Prof. Anne Bernhardt. At the Geocampus Lankwitz, we are currently developing a state-of-the-art laboratory for conducting analog experiments to study the adaptation of landscapes to changing environmental conditions. The focus here is on the development of river landscapes and land-sea transitions under rapid climate change. The topographic adaptation and the associated sediment transport along river systems into the sea is recorded using new and innovative instruments.

To strengthen our dynamic, friendly and international team, we are looking for a research associate with a sound knowledge of dynamical systems theory to support our research in the field of landscape evolution and sedimentology. In particular, we plan to evaluate time series from the analog experiments using dynamical systems models. Although landscape evolution and sediment transport are characterized by complex interactions and feedback mechanisms, dynamic systems theory has hardly been applied in geomorphology and sedimentology so far, resulting in a great potential for innovative research projects. The planned start of work is between January 1 - March 1, 2025.

We look forward to receiving applications from highly motivated candidates with a PhD in the life, natural or technical sciences. If you have any questions about this vacancy, please contact Dr. Stefanie Tofelde (s.tofelde@fu-berlin.de) and Prof. Anne Bernhardt (anne.bernhardt@fu-berlin.de) directly.
