Who we are:

The International Relations team has specialized on the comparative analysis of global or regional international organizations, regime complexity, international negotiations, small states in international relations and international norms. A particular focus is on theory-driven, methodologically sound empirical analysis.

Currently, we conduct the following third-party funded research projects:
1. "The exit of states from regional organizations. A comparative analysis" (funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG))
2. "Performances of Forest Governance of Regional Regimes - A Comprehensive Comparative Analysis" (joint project with Prof. Dr. Daniela Kleinschmid (University of Freiburg), funded by the DFG))
3. “The secret life-changes of norms: A comprehensive analysis of norm change" (together with Prof. Dr. Ulrich Petersohn (University of Liverpool), funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC))

Job description:
Responsibilities of the PostDoc:
- teaching obligations

- conducting your own research, which is related to the specialization of the professorship
- publication activities
- support in setting up an e-learning portal on methods
- support the professorship with self-administration and the handling of examinations
- participation in the academic self-administration of the Otto Suhr Institute

Requirements:
- completed BA and MA degree in political sciences and a completed PhD in political science (with a specialization in International Relations)

Prior (work) experience:

- a very good PhD in political science (with a specialization in International Relations)
- teaching experience in the field of International Relations and/or explanatory methodological approaches in political science

- research with thematic focus in International Relations corresponding to the research profile of the professorship
- research and publication activities in the field of International Relations, documented by peer-reviewed publications in relevant English-language journals or publishers (double-blind peer review)
- very good knowledge of International Relations linked to the research profile of the professorship
- excellent command of quantitative and/or qualitative research methods as well as explanatory research design
- very good (application) knowledge of Stata or R and/or MaxQDA or Altlas.ti
- very good command of English, basic knowledge of German required (from year two onwards teaching should also be in German)

Desirable:

- teaching experience in the field of International Relations and/or explanatory methodological approaches in political science

- experience in obtaining your own third-party funding (travel grants, etc.) is desirable
- experience in academic self-administration (committees, scientific reports for journals, etc.) is desirable
- interest in collaborating with one of the professorship's third-party funded projects is desirable
