This seminar explores more-than-human aesthetic practices and naturalcultural approaches to sensing and sensors. Bringing together theory and practice, we will examine contemporary questions that are emerging within the so-called Anthropocene. As we are faced with unprecedented species loss and climate change, how might aesthetic-sensory practices open up alternative ways of being in and with the world? We will expand concepts of sensing and sensors beyond the merely technocratic, instead attuning to vibrant matter and more-than-human entanglements. We will work from an interdisciplinary toolkit of practical exercises, including deep listening, game-play and experiments with sensor technologies, as well as a wide range of theoretical materials, including critical texts, essay films and artistic research. It is obligatory to attend the seminar regularly and to submit an essay of 2000-3000 words or an audio-visual work or an equivalent combination of the two.
